Our story

After a fire destroyed our shed, my husband and three sons set to work on a new building. The plan was to divide it into two — one half greenhouse and the other as a kitchen to process produce. But mid way through construction, our world was shattered. We lost our youngest son to suicide. It devastated us — our family, our beliefs and our direction in life. In the midst of the heartache, my husband continued construction using it as a way to distract from the unbearable pain of losing a child.

Once building was complete, we began growing plants in the greenhouse. But it quickly became clear that our path was meant to lead somewhere else.

Amidst this grief, I found a spark of purpose in the kitchen. I had the idea to start a bakery that would allow others like me to have a delicious treat that was free from gluten and dairy. My family fondly called it “unicorn food” — a delightful confection that is difficult to find. I began transforming my family’s recipes into gluten free, dairy free delights that made people forget, even for a moment, that they had to go without.

Here at Little Red Bakery & Spice Co., we use simple, wholesome ingredients — organic whenever possible — and every product is handmade from scratch in our dedicated gluten- and dairy-free kitchen. We are also able to accommodate additional dietary needs upon request.

Our journey didn’t stop at the baked goods. With an overabundance of jalapenos from my parents’ garden, my husband got to work dehydrating and smoking them. From that harvest, he created the perfect blend of jalapenos and pink Himalayan salt. That first bottle of Jalapeno Salt quickly became a hit with friends and family — and sparked our line of handcrafted spice blends.
